Job Description
- Participates in the development of Health and Safety internal policies, procedures and working practices
- Conducts risk assessments and develops strategies
- Outlines safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
- Conducts regular site/laboratory inspections to ensure adherence to Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Prepares and maintains inspection records and produces reports that suggest improvements
- Maintains incident records and produces statistics for management as required
- Investigates and reports on all personal injury accidents and damage to property occurring on campus and document in an incident report
- Maintains a working knowledge of Health and Safety best practices and industry policy changes
- Produces health and safety related reports, newsletters and bulletins
- Advises on a range of specialist areas including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases
- Provides safety orientations and oversee the performance in order to ensure safe work practices are followed
- Initiates and organizes safety awareness campaigns, including occupational safety workshops and training sessions, in an effort to ensure that staff observe established safety guidelines and procedures
- Initiates and conducts emergency evacuation drills
- Carries out regular safety and security inspections of , systems and equipment, including first-aid rooms, electrical systems, fire extinguishers and fire hydrants to ensure compliance with international standards
- Advises on health and safety aspects in the planning
- Provides immediate support and assistance in the event of an emergency
- Establishes mechanisms to meet international standards: including Quality Management systems (ISO 14000), Environmental Management (ISO 14001)
- To act as liaison with all related governmental bodies
Skills
- Ability to handle and identify hazards within the facility, operational process.
- Monitor health and safety, assess risk, and design strategies to reduce potential hazards
- A professional certification e.g. - National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) certification or equivalent is desirable.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline is required
- Knowledge of Fire and Safety systems and equipment
- A minimum 6 years of experience in a role related to health and safety, preferably in an educational environment
- ISO 14000,14001 Certified
- Familiar with BRCGS Food Safety Global Standard
